Kate Donohue

Kate’s Bio

“Reaching Out, Lifting Up represents the fulfillment of a long-time dream for me. Adopted as an infant by a loving family, I have always wanted to give back and help children who are not as blessed as I have been.”    –Kate Donohue

Kate spent nearly 30 years on Maryland’s Eastern Shore as a wife, and mother, and a small business co-owner. Actively involved in her sons’ lives, she volunteered at many school, sports, and church activities. She also did free-lance writing and editing.

After years of snow birding, Kate “retired” to Wilton Manors in 2008 and immediately became a dedicated community activist. She has held board positions with an active neighborhood association, an international service organization, and her church. She serves on the committee of the massive county-wide Christmas in July event which outfits more than 1,500 homeless and shelter children and their families for the upcoming school year, and is a Reading Pal at Dillard Elementary School. She is a member of the Wilton Manors Historical Society and Friends of the Library, and is an active volunteer and choir member in her church.

Kate was honored by proclamation from the City of Wilton Manors on March 14, 2017, as a Distinguished Woman of the Community as part of Women’s History Month which celebrates the contributions of women “who have successfully challenged the role of women in both business and the paid labor force, and contributed to the growth and development of Wilton Manors.”

Still looking for a free day to relax, Kate lives with rescue dogs Bella and Oreo and enjoys knitting, socializing, tending her orchids, frequent visits from sons John and David – AND serving her community.
